Port Blair, Aug 24: Continuous efforts are being made by PBMC to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic has collected wastes including bio waste across the Municipal area covering Circuit House, South Point, Circuit House, Haddo, N.K Grand Hotel, Hornbill Nest, Pillar Hospital, Boys and Girls hostel ITI, Netaji Stadium, etc and transported to G.B Pant Hospital incinerator for final disposal while taking all precaution as per the guidelines by deploying its dedicated and trained team.

Interacts with Medical Staff, PRI Members & General Public to Understand the Pandemic Situation

Port Blair, Aug 23: The Deputy Commissioner (SA), Shri Suneel Anchipaka along with Additional District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the IAS (Probationer) visited Primary Health Centre, Wimberlygunj on 22nd August 2020 and inspected the facilities available there. During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with medical staff, PRI members & community people. He took stock of the position and enquired about the status of sanitization, disinfection and water supply in the PHC. Issues like BSNL telephone connectivity, timings of ferry from Chatham to Bambooflat and quarantine of staff were highlighted and necessary instructions were issued to the concerned Departments on the spot, to resolve the issues at the earliest. It was also assured that the same will be followed up and resolved in time bound manner.

Port Blair, Aug 23: The Nicobar District has taken adequate precautions in order to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. From June 15th, all passengers arriving by ship and helicopter were quarantined in their respective homes for 14 days. Further, passive and active surveillance (door to door) was initiated in order to find those persons having Influenza-like Illness (ILI) or Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) symptoms and such persons were placed under home quarantine. Such persons are also given a kit containing paracetamol, azithromycin, Vitamin-C and ayurvedic medicine and regular review is done for such cases.

Port Blair, Aug 23: It has been observed that many officials in the name of quarantine or being in containment zones do not attend to the office/ field duties. In a circular dated 23rd Aug 2020, the A&N Administration has cleared that the officials undergoing quarantine (10-14 days) have to be in the specific recommendations of health professionals, and their absence from office/ field shall be approved by respective Secretary / HOD. Should they require extended quarantine, the same procedure has to be followed.
